9 Square Revisited ( Lecture and Applications) During this class, students may pick up their props to sample some ideas as I will be giving examples but this is intended to be a lecture or concept developing workshop. At the end of the workshop ( if there is time), I will display a couple of applications of the ideas taught and gladly break them down for student that would like for me to. *Topics covered The Rule of Thirds: What Makes a Perceivable Design 9 Square Introduction: What is the 9 Square Theory Exploring the Squares 4 Triangles to Make a Square: Overlapping Triangles The Rule of Thirds: Applying Three Dimensions (first 10 minutes the class to follow this one) ----------------------------------------------------------- The Rule of Thirds (What makes a perceivable design?) The rule of thirds is a principle that artist have been following for centuries. It states that a composition must be able to be divided up into equal thirds. When faced with circular trajectory one might reference the vitruvian circle. ----------------------------------------------------------- 9 Square Intro 9 Square: What is the 9 Square Theory? 9 square theory is a concept coined by charlie cushing to describe a style of spinning that was based on a nine square grid to promote plane control, shape alignment, and symmetry. We will talk a bit about why this is important and I will share some examples --------------------------------------------------------- Exploring the Squares We will be taking a closer look at the square and the relativity to the body and the planes it (the body) creates. We will consider different transitions and talk about negative space and movement within. ----------------------------------------------------------- 4 Triangles to Make a Square: Overlapping Triangles We will be going over the idea of moving around the square with 3 points plotted on the grid as the pathway for shape creation. ----------------------------------------------------------- The Rule of Thirds: Applying Three Dimensions I will close up this workshop with the first 10 minutes the class to follow this one, a more advanced lessons about applying everything that we went over in this workshop to a 3 dimensional framework.
