The future of flow arts lies within the three C's: choreography, collaboration, and composition. Discovering one's choreographic process is no easy task and can take many years to understand and perfect. The aim of this class is to encourage flow artists to begin to explore their choreographic process and to claim it as their own. This class will bridge the gap between improvisation and concrete choreography by exploring elements of composition such as rhythm, musicality, intent, artistic purpose, style, and execution. At the beginning of the class, I will play an instrumental piece of music of my choice. There will then be a brief period of improvisational exploration, followed by an open discussion and brainstorming. Students will then be given the task of choreographing at least three 8-counts to this piece of music. Students may choose to work alone or in groups of two. Students also do not have to incorporate props but may do so if they would like to. Everyone will then share what they came up with at the end, myself included. If anyone does not feel comfortable sharing their work, they will NOT be forced to share. This is an open and safe creative space, and going through the process is the most important part.
